TECHNOLOGY

Battery cell technology has evolved rapidly in recent years – but battery case technology hasn’t been keeping up.
Today’s battery cases are unnecessarily complicated and costly, with too many parts and too much machinery required to assemble them. They add too much size and weight to batteries, which affects performance, and are prone to ongoing maintenance issues.
They also need to be welded to the battery cells, which is a nightmare for battery recycling and re-use. Only around 2-5% of lithium-ion batteries are recycled, and as the first wave of electric cars near the end of their lifecycle, that’s not just bad for the environment – it’s bad for business.
Using advanced composite materials and a smart, streamlined design, Vaulta’s battery casing condenses multiple functions into fewer parts, with no welding required. Vaulta’s simple no-weld design means modules can be easily assembled and disassembled, and cells can be reused and recycled, reducing waste and, crucially, giving batteries a second life.
Vaulta’s patented blend of materials makes its casing 10-15% lighter than current battery cases, without losing strength, giving manufacturers the weight and space savings they need to improve performance or add features elsewhere.
Vaulta’s battery cases are easier to maintain and assemble in the field, and can be easily configured to suit different needs.
Vaulta also improves thermal performance. Vaulta’s electrically and thermally conductive battery cases cool cells at their terminals, so they can perform better for longer.
The scalable design works for all cell types, and with fewer parts to manufacture, test and ship, customers can start using the design to assemble locally in no time.
